TEAPOTS at Circularity of Organic By-Products and Residues Workshop
On 21 January 2025, Alexandros Koutsouris from the Agricultural University of Athens, representing TEAPOTS, participated in a workshop focused on Circularity of Organic By-Products and Residues: Urgent Needs & Solutions for the Primary and Agri-Food Sectors in Greece. Held in Athens, the event brought together key stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives, to discuss challenges and solutions for managing organic by-products and residues in Greece.
The workshop, organized as part of the thERBN project, addressed critical issues such as waste management, bioeconomy opportunities, and sustainable agricultural practices. TEAPOTS contributed valuable insights from its research on farmers’ current waste uses and problems and their views on the agricultural waste pyrolysis and thermo-composting for renewable energy developed by the project. Alexandros highlighted findings from the project, emphasizing the need for knowledge transfer, farmer engagement, and cooperative structures to optimize the reuse of agricultural residues.
Discussions underscored the importance of tailored solutions for farmers, stronger advisory networks, and thematic collaborations to promote sustainability. The outcomes of this workshop will help shape future strategies for improving circularity in Greece’s agrifood sector.
